Book Title: Dona Flor
Author: Pat Mora
Illustrated By: Raul Colon
Summary: A young girl, Dona is a giant in a tiny village with her family and friends. When she was a baby, her mother would sing to her, making her turn into a giant. Dona would attend school just like the other children in the village, and since she was a giant, she got made fun of. Even though Dona got laughed at because of how tall she was, she still had a big heart. She helped children get to school, welcomed her home to everyone, and helped villagers as much as she could. One day, all of the villagers were nowhere to be found. Dona found out that they were all hiding from puma creating a loud roar throughout the village. After searching high and low, Dona found the puma and gave him comfort. Dona took the puma to her house, and all of the animals including the puma went to sleep in the clouds.
I give this story a 4/5 because it was very entertaining to read. I loved how Dona still helped everyone in her village even though she got laughed at because of her height. I took the message of this book as take your uniqueness with pride, like Dona Flor.
